The Loving Grandma’s Craft Room

Paper Plate Animals

Hi, my name is Suzie! My grandbabies light up every time I pull out a stack of paper plates and the box of markers, glue, and googly eyes—it never fails. Making paper plate animals is one of those timeless crafts that has been around forever, but it still feels fresh and fun for little hands.

Instructions

  1. Let your child pick an animal (cat, lion, fish).

  2. Use the plate as the face or body, cut ears/fins from paper, and decorate with crayons and googly eyes.

Supplies

  • Paper plates

  • Markers / crayons

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • Construction paper

  • Googly eyes

That’s the beauty of these simple projects—they let the kids’ personalities shine right through.

I hope you have fun with your grandchildren!

The other week, my grandson decided he was going to make a lion, but instead of just drawing the mane, he glued on about twenty strips of orange construction paper, sticking out in every direction. When he held it up, the poor “lion” looked more like it had just stuck its paw in an electrical socket, and we all burst out laughing. He was so proud of his “crazy-haired king of the jungle,” and I couldn’t bring myself to change a thing.
